Mary Jenkins founded Christians Overcoming Cancer (COC) in the fall of 2006 while in treatment for Stage III Breast Cancer. COC's original mission was to offer women and men in Central Ohio, aged 18-45, emotional support from a faith-based perspective and financial relief services when diagnosed with breast cancer.
In July 2007 the original mission was re-examined, the result of a cervical cancer diagnosed women in search of financial help.
Today, COC still offers emotional support and financial relief services, now to Central Ohioans diagnosed with any cancer while in active treatment. Mary Jenkins, along with committed volunteers, serve the community through our Be Aware, We Care, and Dollars Allocated to Assist (DATA) projects.
Her conviction, courage, determination and strength fuel her passion to encourage and inspire everyone she encounters. Coined “The Mary Jenkins Experience” by people who have witnessed the lives of others being impacted simply by words she selflessly imparts as she speaks with authority and compassion.
Married and widowed at age 19, she learned early how to stand strong in the midst of adversity. Ms. Jenkins received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Savannah State College, in Savannah, Georgia. She attended Bible Way Theological Institute upon coming to Columbus, Ohio in 1995. In 2002 she graduated from Columbus Christian Center’s School of Business and Commerce.
She is the proud parent of three sons, Edwin, Joseph, and Jerry ages 22, 20, and 17 respectively.
