Services Offered Christians Overcoming Cancer offers these services to cancer patients: BE AWARE PROJECT EDUCATION is key to AWARENESS and EARLY DETECTION. "Be Aware" is
designed to inform individuals of all races, religions and genders, the importance of:
We call this practicing "Self Health". Survivors and volunteers openly share their personal cancer story, detailing their mind-set prior to diagnosis, steps taken while in treatment, and what they learned about themselves overall as a result of seeking treatment. We close with specific instructions for people to practice self health and receive a health check. The presenters clearly share the importance of being pro active with your own health from a position of "one who's been there". WE CARE PROJECT SUPPORT is critical to the overall EMOTIONAL HEALTH of a cancer patient. "We Care" provides Central Ohioans a 24- hour network of people, from all walks of life. For those newly diagnosed with cancer, we offer individual support ranging from providing a listening ear, to companionship at treatments, to home assistance. Our volunteers are also willing to attend surgeries, serving as a support person for the family of the person having the surgery. Our goal is to teach the 90/10% happenings of life rule, which states; life is 10% what happens to us and 90% our response to what happens. This helps the person as well as the family implement the rule. We desire to help patients not just survive cancer but OVERCOME IT. The benefit to our clients is personal access to support. Our support volunteers strive to be available when they are needed which is different from the support groups that require the person to wait until the weekly or monthly meeting. DOLLARS ALLOCATED TO ASSIST (DATA) PROJECT FINANCIAL RELIEF is vital to the OVERALL STABILITY of a cancer patient. We believe "Dollars Allocated to Assist" (DATA) is the missing link to increasing the number of people who seek treatment early and/or at all. Our belief is, if a person knows of an organization that is ready to help them meet "personal non-medical" financial obligations as needed while in treatment, they will be more willing to seek treatment. The program is two-fold. Firstly, DATA serves as a service information resource for cancer patients. Secondly, the program serves as a financial resource maintaining two funds to financially assist those in active cancer treatment. The first fund, The General Cancer Fund, provides monies for cancer patients who experience financial challenges while in active treatment. The second fund, The Mark Hudson II Fund, provides monies to assist families who have a child in active cancer treatment. Our ability to offer needed financial assistance is reflective of the tax deductible donations received through our fund raising activities and our continuous giving campaign. Individuals making donations, whether monthly or onetime, become members of The Overcomer's Army. The Army is comprised of individuals committed to standing in the gap financially for those who are in the toughest battle of their lives. |
